Geekend Update

It's been an adventurous week. Had to go to Quincy twice this week to replace a monitor. Hp warranty sent the wrong one. On the way back on Monday I played with the camcorder a bit.

I thought it might be cool to film the trip back while I'm driving. So I setup my tripod kind of in and around the console of the jeep and ran the windshield washer a few times. Mounted the camera and letter rip. Suprisingly enough it, didn't do too bad all considering. I only had one tape with me so I was only able to film from Quincy to Chester but that's all I needed.

After I got home I found out how easy it was to get the clip into the computer over firewire so it could be edited. Editing however will be a challenge because of the available formats I can import. My choice is WMV or DV-AVI. My mpeg editor can't handle these files so I'm gonna have to learn to use Sony Vegas. Found a deal on Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum that was only $30. after rebates. It's certainly not the proversion but has a lot of the stuff in it that Vegas 7 has for the pro's. All this of course will add time to my DVD project.

Speaking of which the DVD project is currently at a halt. Mostly because I've been spending less and less time sitting at the computer. last weekend I installed a couple drive caddies in my server and cloned the hd. Was running out of space. I've run into the same problem almost on my video server.....2TB Raid5 is on the way! That should be here Monday.

The fence guy finished the cyclone fence at the back of the property this week. I was a little dissappointed that the company that made the fence weave I used last year seems no longer to be in business. So matching may become a problem unless I redo everything. I might roam around this weekend to see if I can find some old stock. I only need about 5-6 rolls so someone may have some somewhere.

Over the last few weeks I've had a mild sinus infection that is a little bothersome...randomly bothersome though now. I'm starting to notice more aches and pains in my joints at night so sleeping is also more of a challenge even though I seem to be doing more of it lately. And oh yeah, I'm down to aprox 3/4 of a pack a day from 4 packs so far.

Humming Bird population is growing around here. I counted 10 the other day. They are starting to cooperate at times. The feeders only have 4 holes each. The other day I saw 3 birds taking turns on one hole. One bird on the perch, and one on either side. The resident avian cook is spending a lot of time monitoring the feeders as a result.

Not sure exactly what I will do this weekend. Way to early to tell.

I have a lot of bird feeders, but I've never put up a hummingbird one. Well, I put one up but never filled it. I have good luck, so I should try it.About three years ago on a whim, I put up an "Upside Down" thistle feeder for these certain birds. It came free with another feeder so I just put it up. I couldn't believe it when like three of them suddenly showed up within a week to eat from it.
When we first moved in here, there were few birds to be heard for what ever reason. It's not so bad now though for what ever reason. Even the birdbath is getting a few more takers. I tried thistle in a regular feeder but the seed rotted before it got any response. So I haven't pursued that one again yet.
Certainly a source of enjoyment.
I'm really proud of you for cutting down on the cigerettes and I know mama is too...Keep it up and you know you have my support.
The big problem we have around here with bird feeders is the deer. If the bird feeders are too low, they eat from them. It's not warm enough around here yet to put up the high-up hummingbird feeder. I'm guessing that will happen soon enough, though,Vegas Video is the shiznit, apparently. Not that I've played with it. I'm guessing the version you got was kind of like what Adobe Premiere Elements is to Adobe Premiere.I'm really proud that you've managed to work your way down to 3/4 of a pack a day. I know it's not easy and I'm sure you're not thrilled with how the drugs are making you feel. Work through it, though, and I'm sure you will make it to a smoke-free life.
I'm starting to wonder if I can claim the humingbirds as dependents. Just bought a 25 pound sack of sugar for them yesterday.
Having deer cruise the property would be cool but that would definately effect the garden. I do get to see herds of deer, wild turkeys, antelopes and other things cruise through residential areas in my travels. Had a buck scratch himself on my Jeep one day. It's really cool to see nature and humanity cooperating.
This version of Vegas is as you suspected not the pro version. Figured I'd easy into the 600.00 pricetag before taking the actual plung. My $30 investment qualifys me for an upgrade price also though.
The new cig law in CA also helps. They made the cig manufacturers remove some chemicals to keep the cig burning. This adds a certain amount of psycological impact tot he act of smoking.I think. Not only does it taste differrent, but it's more hastle to keep it going.
I suppose a percentage of my 4 pack habit actually was litterally going up in smoke when I just had one lit and wasn't actually actively smoking. One thing I have noticed though since I started taking the pills is that I'm not inhaling the smoke as deeply. So it's all good!
Thanks for the encouragement.
