2 Days of Damage Control Leads to Cooler Weather

It was good to have a holiday follow my Seattle trip. We had a great time swimming at the lake and then took off early evening to catch the fireworks in town. I brought the camcorder with me and taped the entire 23 min show. Not sure if I can post it or not since it is rather huge.

Anyway, my employer failed to get someone to cover my area while I was gone. So I had some calls backed up when I returned. I suppose it could have been worse but It usually has the tendancy to make me look bad since I'm the one that shows up to fix things.

Then of course there was the 112 degree weather and the swamp cooler not working correctly.

Saturday, I installed a new curtain rod and hung the curtains I had cleaned and fixed several months ago. When I took the curtains down I found the board the rod was mounted to separating from the wall due to the weight. The window, unfortunately, is an 8 foot wide by 5 foot high single-pane window and catches the afternoon sun.

The curtains were made for a 10 foot window the way they were previously hung. Now that it's finished and mounted correctly, there is room for pictures or something at the sides of the curtains. Actually looks much better than it did before.

The swamp cooler guy came out friday and adjusted the float in the cooler and it's working better now. Not sure how they could charge for the service since just a few months earlier I paid for a full service which included that, We called for service because the float was out of adjustment and water was running off the roof....still gonna call them on this.

Things have cooled off at work, and the house.

I have learned long ago that when I go on vacation or otherwise leave my normal work routine to "do something else" like a class, nobody's going to pick up the slack. Unless something comes in that's a barn-burner emergency, everything will be waiting for me when I get back. It's a fact of my work life.I couldn't do a swamp cooler up here. The humidity is a bit higher up in these parts. I also would prefer that the electronic equipment actually last, which the increased humidity would cause some issues with. Humidity was a huge factor in computer failures in Hawaii, well that and the fact that some people had a hard time keeping other contaminants away from their computers as well.
Of course when you go out of town and the "company" agrees to cover your back as a stipulation of you going...it would seem they should follow through. Since everything I do is under contracts, ulti, ately it is the company that gets hurt when the contract is awarded to some other company.
Swamp coolers are real popular here for some reason. The one we have on the roof will pull a door out of your hand when you are trying to close it because of the force. I think if I could afford to opperate an a/c unit I might go that route someday. It could usee the existing ducting rather easily.
Swamp coolers are good when the humidity is low, which I know it is in Northern CA. They are also more efficient to operate in low humidity. That would explain their popularity. We don't have AC in the new house. Given that we're in the 90s up here right now, the thought of being without AC isn't any fun whatsoever.
