Wheels Down...

Just got back from Spokane Washington for an overnight run. Seems like a nice place. Plenty of really neat old buildings downtown. Seattle could take a lesson on traffic. I was joking around with the client an mentioned that everyone spoke English that I met....must be the official Spokane language. LOL. He said there is not much diversity of people up there.

Since I didn't need to haul any computer parts for the 2 jobs I ran I ended up renting a little booty scooter.

2008 Pontiac G5

Pretty nice little ride and was fun to drive but hard to see out the right-side. Normally I get a mid-size when I have to rent a work car.

Got to the airport as bit early and was real fortunate of that. I turned the car back in and had to walk through the entire terminal to the far end. Checked-in and went through security...then realized I left my cellphone inb the car. So I hurried back and they already had it in the office. Still had plenty of time to get on the plane.

This trip I flew out of SAC because of booked flights so that's an extra 300 miles of driving to and from the diggs. And got back just in time for dinner and to start my vacation. of course I have one call I need to run tommorrow and possibly something on the 31st but basically off for 12 days...There is no real getting away from this job.

Yeah I have been through Spokane. Is nice town. Sure it has grown since I was there. Been back in Missouri for almost 10 years.Looks like a fun little car to drive. Big money no doubt.Happy Holidays
I lived in Spokane for about 3 or 4 years back in the late 1990s. It's a nice place to live, but once you get out of town, there's nothing but flat desert and farmland. And, as you discovered, it's not a terribly diverse place. That not only goes for skin color, but for politics.I have done many flights out of Spokane International Airport. It's on-par with, say, San Jose in terms of getting in and out of it.
If you ever go back, I have to recommend you try Tomato Street up on Division. They make great pizza. Most of the other stuff they had there was good, too. If you're up for something fancier (and pricier), try Clinkerdaggers.
Just happen to know where Division St is. Amazingly enough it seems to divide the town. I saw all the flatness from the plane. Looks like if a storm blows through there would be no protection like the high plains in Reno to Susanville area. Which also accounts for the 27degree morning I had yesterday. BRR
The car was only 38 bucks for the day and had a good heater.
We had a loaner when we had our car fixed. On the way home after picking up our car, I was sure I left my Treo in the rental. It's kind of freaky losing a smart phone because it's so much more than a phone - every contact and address you have, including email is on the stupid thing. Treo's have a strange problem too - if you invoke the phone lock - which will prevent any tampering, the phone doesn't ring. This is a bug/issue I've read about on their site. So mine is unlocked. I've heard there is a service you can get where you can zap the phone from any internet site if you need to. For now, I just make sure to keep it close.
I feel your panic! I leave my laptop home usually unless I really think I may need it. Usually I take more care but of course missing a flight added a bit of scaryness to it. We put our whole life in our gadjets and its so easy to have it cause untold problems whewn we lose them.
Hope you and Jamie have a great Holiday
I've dumbed down my work laptop so that I only use it as a dumb terminal for Gotomypc. Any more than that and I worry too much. Weird times we live in.Thanks, you too!
Division does pretty much runs through the center of town. That and Sprague are considered the major streets in Spokane. (Sprague runs mostly parallel to I-90).What's funny about both of these streets is that at some point they split and become two separate streets (one street handles one direction, the other street handling the other) for a period of time and then they become one again later.
I use Radmin from Famasoft, which works awsome! a little bit harder to setup because you need to setup a dynamic dns account to point the laptop to your desktop and open a port on the router. With an additional licence, I could also use the connect through host feature to reach any pc on my network using the same port configured on the router.
I also use it for clients because it works well over a 28.8 modem connection. Even in the hotel with a lowspeed wireless connection I was able to convert several movies ans see the output preview.
E Sprague I found split as you described around the 7000 block which is quite a ways from Division. Not too confusing since the adress range for Sprague is the same for the street it splits to. I was able to figure out where I was on Sprague even though I was on the other street for a ways untill I needed to get back over to Sprague.
You should write a quick tip thingy on your other blog explaining how to set up the dynamic DNS. I had one one time but I had to always go in to their website (I think it was something like dewitte.isageek.com or something - you could pick from a few domains) and reset the IP manually when it stopped working. I know there are utilities out there to run in your system tray, but when I looked there were so many I moved on to something else.
Good Topic for Techzilla News...thanks
