MickeyD's takes on Starbucks

Somebody is smokin something at McDonald's Corporate offices. Plan's are to offer a similar coffee menu to that of Starbuck's. Not that I'm a peticular Starbuck's fan but I doubt that it will go over all that well but I could be wrong.

Starbuck's just opened a store down the road and across the street from McDonald's here. Being right next to the freeway ramp seems to be good for thier business in this small town. We are tha last real town if you are going north for about 40+ miles or so and often a hangout when the road closes.

McDonald's is trying to capture the traffic for people who can affor $4/cup for a cappichino. I think one major flaw is in the plan....atmosphere.

When I lived in Portland, Oregon I think there was a Starbucks on every corner. lol.......Great coffee, out of my price range. lol
Our local Mickey Ds is undergoing this transformation also. It's not entirely about atmosphere, particularly when you're talking drive through. Of the 6 Starbucks in Gig Harbor (which includes some locations inside grocery stores), I believe only two of them are drive-thru. I think that along with the yuppie parents that bring their kids to McDs are the target audience for these coffee drinks.
I can afford it I suppose but paying that much turns me off. I usually just get the brew of the day.
The crowd that wants to sit around and relax, read abook etc will find it hard to do with french fries sailing by thier head from the brat in other booth. And in chairs not conducive to that.
They just recently made it to this part of the country. They are at Target and some theater in Branson. lol
They are gambling that a different crowd that might be otherwise put off by the atmosphere of a Starbucks would like foo foo coffee drinks.
You should treat yourself at least once...the coffee is actually good though overpriced.
I'm sure they already tested it in selected markets. McDonald's is everywhere and Starbucks hasn't necessarily gotton there yet so in some places it would add-value without direct competition.
Definately a bold break from tradition.
Oh don't worry I have. This past summer I had some kind of raspberry whip thing. Gads it was really good. lol
Let me know when StarBucks gets a gourmet Quarter Pounder with Cheese and I'll be there.
It likely wouldn't fit in thier low calorie lineup...but hey if they have a veggie burger even would be a plus.
I actually don't get into Starbucks very often - I've been at the one in Target and the one in Barnes & Nobel, but not a freestanding Starbucks. The one at B&N has sandwiches.
Dont laugh, Starbucks is getting into selling actual food. Not sure if we get into burger fare yet.
Some of the Starbuck's in the airports have sandwiches. The last one I had to take on the plane was pretty good. It was a chicken pesto as I recall. I'm sure every one of them is different to some degree.
I have yet to venture inside the Starbuck's here that just opened up but if you have never visited a freestand Starbucks it's worth the visit at least once.
