Snow on the Roof

IMG_0428

Thursday we woke up to a little bit of snow that lasted through this morning. The rain has since washed it all away... But it was a great opportunity for a few Pic of the yard and the birds. Click on the images to see the birds in a larger view.

I think there are 19 finches on the feeder sock...hungry little buggers. You have to sneak up on them to get a shot.

The tiny, tiny bit of snow we got several days ago is still hanging around here because it's been hovering around freezing here, though the days have been nice and sunny. We're surrounded by trees for the most part, so that sunshine isn't doing much for most of my yard.Of course, now they're talking about snow being possible for the weekend in addition to it being freezing. Yay.
I recall as a little boy waking up early and seeing snow in the backyard in Santa Clara. I ran into my parents room to tell them and was told to go back to bed and that I was dreaming. I was a sleepwalker at that age known for standing on the counter and peeing on the kitchen table. Needless to say I was reedemed and was building a snowman by the time the sun was actually up.
It's nice to be able to see this for very short periods each year so far since I have been here. Mt. Shasta has avalanche warnings out currently I hear. We must have been on the edge of a pretty big snowstorm.
Having spent most of my life living in places where snow is extremely rare, I didn't end up building my first snowman until I moved up this direction and had kids. :)My first actual "snow" memory was my mom driving through the Santa Cruz mountains when she was trying to take my friend back home. We lived in Bonny Doon at the time and we were taking my friend back home. He lived up by the Boulder Creek Country Club, so she drove Empire Grade. Going down Jamison Creek Road while it was icy was a bit scary given how narrow and curvy that road is.
very pretty! I have yet to build a snowman!!
I recall lot's of snow in that area every year. I even recall snow on the beach one year. Was the freind you were talking about named Lyle? He was a nice kid. What ever happened to him? Do you keep in touch?
If you ever get a chance to build a snowman...there are no rules! Personally, I haven't actually played in the snow in years. I can see snow almost year-round where I live now on top of Mt. Shasta. At the house though, its a day or two a year. Snowball fights can be fun with the right person.
You can make a toboggan out of a heavy piece of cardboard and have a blast. An old car hood can serve as a 4 seater toboggan also rather easily. Steering being a problem with either though.
Yeah it was Lyle that we were taking home and I lost touch with him after I moved to Hawaii.
Not sure how I actually remembered his name. I bet he would enjoy hearing from you.
