Outta State! Right Arm! Farm out!

Went to Medford Oregon today to setup a laptop. Was a beautiful drive. Stopped on the way back and took a couple feet of video of the backside of Castle Craig State Park near Dunsmuir. I didn't have much time to play since it was getting dark.

Friday night I installed VMWARE on my PC and got Ubuntu and Vista Ultimate setup as virtual machines. Slept most of Saturday. Sunday I figured out why we couldn't access data on the Ubuntu Server from a Ubuntu Workstation like we could with Windows. It was so easy it eluded me. But now that is working, we(I) can worry about the printing problem.

Saw tons of snow today. Mt Shasta was under cloud cover but you know it's there when you drive by it as it's fairly ominous.

When I lived in Brookings, OR some 15 yrs ago I loved to go to Medford. and of course Ashland was the best place. Now I'm in Alabama. I do miss where I have lived before but I like it here now. A friend is out of town and am using his stuff. He told me about slingmedia and I am so wowed by it. I love technology . I have some great photos of Shasta from years ago. Well, bye.
Sounds like fun - we love trekking around in the mountains, especially when it is cooler and the leaves are changing.
One thing nice about Oregon is that it doesn't change that much. If I had had more time, I would have stopped at the city park in Ashland. It was a beautiful park as I remember it from around 1969. One of these days I'm gonna go catch the Shakespear Festival. Today I can see Shasta and Lassen as clear as a bell but you have to be in just the right place to get the killer shot. I seem to take lots of shots of them as they are always changing.
Beautiful drive...3 hours there and 3 hours back. The highest peak on hwy 5 is 4310 ft and had bunches of snow. Friday the road from Redding to the Oregon border was closed...so there was plenty of snow almost the entire way untill I popped into Ashland area in Oregon.
Nice - we rarely get or see snow unless we are traveling in PA. We took a ride out to Skyline Drive about a year and a half ago. That was a great scenic drive.
They used to say that Lithia Park was a sacred place and that there was "lithium" in the water. The drug they give bi-polar folks. .....I went to a modern dance show at the outdoor theatre that was great. Our Shakespeare theatre is indoors. Do you ever get to Quincy, CA? I have a good friend living there who used to teach at Feather River College...an Apple geek/math teacher now retired. They live in a house off the grid and use generators to charge a bank of batteries to run the house with. I miss the west. But Alabama has the cheapest real estate in the nation and with factories moving in like crazy I'm finally at the right place at the right time.
On rare occations I do get to Quincy. Also Chester once in a while. I get paid the big bucks to go up there when I do, (yeah right) Quincy is a nice little town but dosen't look like alot of opportunity. I like to go up Hwy 70 out of Oroville when I go there and see the Feather River...then on the way back come through Lassen Park. Makes for a great adventure.
I've never been to Alabama, I think the humidity would get me. Sounds like your happy though which is what matters.
I can actually see snow year-round on Mt. Shasta. Even in the summer there is usually at least a patch of it visible.
I lived in Saudi Arabia for 5 years and found I could tolerate air conditioning quite well. Same goes for Alabama. Nothing like "climate control"...which is why it has grown so much, I think. After seeing 60 minutes show on Dubai I decided that I should eventually try to "Teach English as a 2nd Language" because that place has to be amazing. Sort of like New York City built on a sandbox. Have you ever been to the horse races at Grants Pass? Thats a nice town.
Dubai is an amazing city. I've seen several pictures of the place. We rely on swamp coolers here in the Redding Area. I do my yardwork in mornings and evenings. Shasta Lake is 10 minutes from the house. Only time I was in Grant's pass was to get gas and coffee. It seemed ok from what I saw.
