Cheap Gas Sighting

DSC00194

This is the cheapest I have found in my travels. It is $2.29 in my city now. The price you see below is out in a county area. I have seen lot's of independents that have mini-marts practically in a price war. The farther out it is, the lower the price. This is not normal!

What it points out though is that we have a few forces at play...greedy merchants, and local taxes. The pictures below are in Los Molinos California in Tehama county on Highway 99. Los Molinos is around 15 miles north of Chico which is averaging $2.25 for regular. Chico is in Butte county.

Looks like it's time to petition local government to reduce fuel taxes to stimulate the economy!

Wow - ours was $1.69 today at the local WaWa. Amazing, really considering I filled up a few months ago for $3.99.
California has the tendacy to rape drivers with all the regulations. We have an abnormal amount of environmental wackos here that drive up costs. The cheapest I have seen lately is $1.84 We pay for special additives and seasonal blends.
You may not be old enough but I recall gas wars an $.25/gal prices. And I also recall gas as high as $4.50 or higher not all that long ago if I'm not mistaken. lowere prices couldn't have come at a better time.
They say the reason gas prices went down is because demand went down. It all sounds like a game to me, but I'm not complaining about the gas prices, considering they came down faster than they went up/Costco is by far the best place to buy gas, assuming your store has a gas station like ours does. It's usually $0.10 a gallon cheaper than anywhere else nearby. On Friday, it was $1.65.Even though Costco costs $50 a year, we end up saving way more than that over the course of the year. I actually earn most of my membership fee back, which is possible with the $100 Executive membership.
Gas is lower now even. I think it's really a result in the value of the stocks declining after so many people decided to pull out. Demand is not the issue as much as peoples ability to pay for a product. They know that unless they tighten thier belts like the rest of the world is doing it will not serve them well. But in addition to stock prices, they have always had the ability to control supply to drive the price up.
They seem to charge more when they figure we are willing and ABLE to pay more. By gas prices getting this low though, they are exposing thier greed. I doubt they actually are losing money by having lower gas prices but in fact just making less.
One other factor to consider: all the refining capacity lost by Hurricane Katrina is coming back online.
That and the fact "Drill Now" is still somewhat alive!
