OMG this is the biggest scam I've ever seen, Techzilla. Neither of the "experts" speaking in this video have qualifications to speak on this.
They both work for the conservative Heritage Foundation and they have degrees in Law, Accounting and Economics, respectively. Not a brain cell among them spent time earning a degree or even a job in biology, geology, Earth science, environmental studies, hydrology, resource management, etc.
Speakers in this video have zero, zilch qualifications to discuss what will "Save the Earth".
Ellie,
I don't believe it takes a rocket scientist to see there is no "bang for the buck" that can come from this legislation. Based on the current consensus of the actual experts, global warming is not as big of a problem as was previously thought.
And the consensus is a theory for which there are no hard facts to support.
The earth is a big and beautiful thing full of all kinds of mysteries. It is fully capable of balancing "imbalances" all by itself. It's pretty arrogant to think we ants can make that much of a difference in a short period of time, especially when all the other ants won't follow our lead.
Plant's for instance use CO2 to create oxygen we breathe...when there is more OXYGEN available to do that, Plant's use OXYGEN to do thier thing until CO2 levels return to proper levels. this process is called Photosynthesis.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe we can reduce our footprint on the planet. And I also believe we should be moving towards doing just that. but it doesn't make economic sense to tax our country out of existance and ruin our way of life for such a small contribution to a percieved and possible non-problem.
Not unless you would like to see the country turn into a 3rd world country that is.
Put a little faith in Yankee ingenuity and greed. If there is a buck to be made, someone will spend thier own money on it and develop something that works. They already know what we want. They already have a market. What they don't have and may never have is a product that is profitable to produce.
And we certainly can't afford to fantasize about something that doesn't exist when we have bigger problems to deal with at the moment that should have a higher priority. Let's get real here for a minute...how many people do you know that can afford to take $1,000-10,000 dollars out of the annual household budget to pay for this bogus plan?
Exercising a little common sense once in a while never hurts. If your worried about CO2, go plant a garden...let nature take its course. Drive less, breath less. Leave the lights off, turn things off. That's all something you can do at least for now until the government figures out how to tax it. Take personal responsibility and leave the government out of it.
Interesting video. However, I am not buying into it. The bottom line is renewable energies are what our dreams are made of. Oil, Natural gas and nuclear power should be conserved for world emergencies. Bring on the sun, wind, and bio fuels.
Show me the technology and how to make it profitable and I'll buy into it....but don't make me subsidize it to make it work. It needs to stand on it's own merit. It needs to be cheaper and more effiecient or it will never fly.

No disrespect intended, Techzilla, but without citing your sources, your comment really has no worth to it. Here are some articles which prove global warming, if you want to disprove any of their methods, that would be a start.
Interpretations of High Projections for Global Mean Warming
"Little Ice Age" Summer Temperature Variations: their nature and relevance to recent global warming trends
Global-scale temperature patterns and climate forcing over the past six centuries
Secondly, the very defenition of a theory is that it has more scientific weight than even facts or laws, Theory is concensus. It's good to at least learn the lingo before making sweeping statements that dismiss years of intensive scientific work.
I agree with you, however, that conserving our resources is good, and I strongly believe that some traditional conservatives (having lived frugally, maybe through hard times etc) may be far better at behaving in an ecologically responsible matter than many liberals!! :)
I forgot to italicize your quote, sorry.
Ellie,
Thanks for your well though out comment.
One of the advantages of having your own blog is you can say what ever you want and don't have to cite sources. My gut tells me that the American public has been duped with yet another emergency providing an opportunity for polititians to reach deeper into our pockets.
There is no way that with the amount of actual data that has been collected that it can provide definative proof that we have a long term problem. Do I want them to stop collecting data...no, Do I want them to stop thinking?...no.
It's funny how you never hear any outrage over the rain forests any more. Life hasn't changed down there. One of the reasons for that is forests were discovered growing in other parts of the world where they never existed before. I should add that the forests were not planted by man either.
I'm more inclined to believe we are headed towards an ice age since the sun is in a low cycle of sun-spots.
