Death of the Mouse Predicted

I was reading one of my newsletters I get from Tech Republic the other day and it seems some experts are predicting that the mouse is on the way out, It is supposed to give way to touchscreen and voice recognition. Personally I have a hard time buying that.

Here's some of my slants on this topic...

1. Exactly how ergonomic is holding your arm up touching the screen to do computer operations for any length of time going to be? The screen would have to be built into a desk or laying relatively flat.

2. The screen would have to be huge to accomodate fat fingers to get any accuracy in selecting or initiating any action.

3. Sorry hold on while I clean my screen...imagine this problem with hand oils and trying to have a working lunch without inviting disaster.

4. Not feeling so well today and my voice recognition software can't understand my raspy voice.

5. I'm speaking with a client doing tech support and I'm speaking commands to my computer and have to constantly tell the client "no not you". Then the computer stops doing what I told it to do.

6. Equipment cost? A mouse costs 10-100 bucks and can survive several computer purchaces...hmmm

When i went to  FedeX today there were around 25 Secret Service men standing around shooting the breeze. They were taking up all the parking places. Apparently the President is scheduled to fly in on Air Force One tommorrow for a funeral and to tour the fire areas. After I left the Office I told them to move thier cars that they were taking up Customer Parking and pointed out all the parking available in the fields if the really needed to park there.

Anyway the Presedent missed the most spectacular thing about the fires...the Canadian Fire Plane. I happended to see it fly over head.

Sprint - no longer my best friend.

My cell contract ran out on June 2 and because of unemployment of course I have been unable to pay off my bill. I was getting my taxes ready today and noticed they were still billing me $133.00/month without a contract so I called them up to dispute the charges.

Even though I spoke to a CSR over a month ago about the bill and stated I was on unemployment AND would have trouble paying the bill AND would not be renewing the contract...no mention of that was recorded.

Apparently burried somewhere in the contract they tell me there is a clause that at the end of the contract they will keep billing you on a month to month. I asked why when I told the gal I wasn't going to renue the contract she didn't state that.

I spoke actually with around 6 different people. With all of them they stated that I had to make a special effort to call them to cancel service. One guy said he couldn't cancel service until my past due bill was paid.

In order to get them to reduce the bill by one months charges I had to agree to $30.00 a month 200 minute plan.As soom as i pay it off I'm dumping them all together!

I found another company that has unlimited and uses Sprint towers for $50.00/month called Boost. Same exact coverage area and no contracts. But one of my employers provides me with a free phone to do thier business with so I really don't need it as long as I do thier work.

Man am I ticked off! thank God I have Ice Cream for desert!....mmm yummy!

STAY TUNED FOR THE WASHING THE KEYBOARD IN THE DISHWASHER TEST!  LOL

I'm using another keyboard at the moment. We're gonna pull it out after the rinse cycle and let it dry for a few days. Usually I just buy a new keyboard when I can't see the letters any more....

How to reduce dependancy on Foreign Oil

I watched a webcast this morning done by 80 year old T. Pickens. Mr. Pickens is an oil industry tycoon with around 60 years in the business. He is leading a plan to reduce our dependance on foriegn oil. Currently we are importing 70% of our oil...that means the cost of that is reducing our net worth as a nation at a rate of 700 billion dollars a year using $140 dollar a barrel prices. How long can we afford it?

Curtain Test...

Got out around 6 AM and installed the 80% UV reduction curtain over the front window. It's supposed to get to 114 today and start cooling down to the weekend. As far a s light in the living room, the curtain doesn't seem to impede it much which is nice. so we will see by tonight.

My son turned 35 today...I turned....uhh 57. I had to add 22 years 2 hours and 2 minutes to the equation. LOL
